This piece is the most Moody and Unusual Persian Feraghan I’ve ever seen in my life. These colors are like a dream – never have I witnessed a symphony of colors in combinations that not only work together effortlessly but activate the imagination and artistic side of us all. The amount of abrash (natural variations of colors) in this piece is unmatched. Icey blue, saffron and canary yellow, deep plum and eggplant, rich attractive reds and rusts, fresh spring greens, deep coffee, and earthy browns, with irregular and spontaneous horizontal shades of Atlantic salmon and blushy apricot, all blossoming on deep indigo and an inky navy field. The iconic Herati design, also known as the fish-garden or Mahi design, somehow finds a way to strike the balance of charm and playful mixed with sophisticated and refined class. You can see the fish motif in one of the pictures I’m pointing too, along with the irregular variations of colors. The fish garden also signifies luck and came from old Persian folklore of the story between two fish that were deeply in love with each other and chasing one another around the world. Hence why often you will see two leaf motifs (the fish) circling around one round flower (the globe). The size of this rug is marvelously Persian, not a standard cookie-cutter size, but an over-sized Persian size woven for more of the European market. This rug would be perfect for a living room, dining room, family room, den, basement, lobby or conference room, in a hotel, a large bedroom, or anywhere else one would place a nice sized piece. The condition of this rug is fantastic with age-related wear. Beautiful patina giving it its the charm, great edges with a nice weave. My grandfather has secured both of the fringe sides to prevent any unraveling so it is good to go and ready to use.
