About: TERRACOTTA UNICORN - this piece is from another planet - every attribution, characteristic, and element we thought we knew about the Ancient Weavings of the Northwest get thrown out of the Window as these weavers must have said to themselves, "what if we did the opposite of what we usually do..." For a rug enthusiast or a collector of Unique Carpets, this very notion is what we're always looking for - what makes this different from the rest? The departure from normal Northwest weavings is in both the design and color palette; which here work together nicely to actually insinuate the uniqueness of both. The terracotta and rusty / earthy clay derive from organic madder-root, the blues all from thee indigo plant, the eartjhy browns perhaps from bark, amongst other things, and the design looks as if it were borrowed a bit from ancient Ferahans the way the dainty vines suspend in the airr linking one geometric palmette flower head to a jagged leaf motif. Keep looking and you'll see a vine growing different scaled blooms with leaves as well. Let your eye reach the perimeter and you'll see an iconic Bakshayesh-motif border with an incredible amount of negative space that allows the leaf & flower head motif to really pop - while the color palettes these masterful weavers have chosen also add an anchoring of sorts to allow the lighting-like motifs strike thought the entire rug all seemingly chaotically, but the chaos actually has formality as they all strike towards the center creating a subtle focal point; a minimal flower withstanding the storm. Or, is that flower the the source of all the beauty as it charges the electrical stems to shoot outwards towards the earthy camel guard borders that flank the indigo main border. We'll never know, annd we'd like to keep it that way. For the designers and those with an artistic eye, you can see the appeal of an all-over design when creating a space or assembling one together - the lack of center medallion allows for a free for all to place furniture and furnishings wherever you please giving the room some freedom; a great metaphor for the liberal playfulness of the nature that is depicted in this rug. I'm telling you right now - you or I will never come across another combination of colors, design, age, condition, size, and beauty of this format and village again - a collaboration of some of the most decorative elements from the most sought after Persian Carpets of all time come together to assemble this Terracotta Unicorn with a Heart-Attack Impact Moment of stark Abrarsh of dyes around the middle of the rug, and then continues to stagger horizontal bands of sunset and Grand Canyon hues as if an Earthy Amber Sun was falling behind the rugged mountains. We hope you love this as much as we do, enjoy.

A note from us to you: Buying a rug is special; it's not just you finding the rug, but also the rug finding you. Think about the many coincidences that have to occur for you to find the rug of your dreams. Our rugs are woven by nomads in the villages and remote mountainous regions of the major rug weaving districts across the world. All of our rugs are genuinely old and one-of-a-kind. Like anything old and unique, they are filled with character, soul, and story. The story of a rug is something we think about a lot; who was the weaver(s)? Did they weave it for personal use, commerce, to gift, or trade? Who was the second owner, and the third!? Sometimes the little motifs and symbols in rugs can help tell the story, but we will never truly know - there's something beautiful about that. Alas, our joy is to curate these incredible pieces that speak to us, and to pass them along to their new owners to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come; both continuing to add to the story of the rug, and to the story of the new owners.
