Pile: Full HIGH-QUALITY Pile throughout - this wool is soft and a bit glossy thanks to the higher level of lanolin content 🙌🏽 You will love walking on this piece, laying on it and/or your kid playing on it! Comfy for your pet to lay on it too, everyone will love it! Some minor areas we tidied up, nothing significant at all and in fantastic condition for its age.
About: Nothing like a SYMBOLIC piece of Art that not only is Aesthetically pleasing to the Eye, an Honoring of the King of the Jungle, but also a symbol of Power, Grace, Fertility, and Protection. On top of this, in this region's tradition the dipection of a Lion in a Rug with the Lion's tail woven UPWARD means that this weaver has agreed and said yes to the proposal of the Boy to asked her to have her hand in Marriage. Indeed, this piece is packed with meaning and story on many levels - the mother and daughter deer sittinng there admiring the Lion in all his Glory, perhaps means the weaver of this piece will want a family, the love birds and appels in the border also honor Love and a Healthy life. This particular Lion is also very handsome - some Lion rugs in my opinion just aren't done with this much detail and skill, giving the lion a more abstract and sometimes Cubism feel - not good or bad, but this piece is just much more distinct and well-executed carpet from weave, to color combination, to clarity. Wool foundation and wool pile speaking to the nomadic essence, also signed by the weaver - a top notch Lion rug right here 🦁🦁🦁
This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one available.
Because of the nature and age of these older/antique handmade pieces, irregularities and age-related wear are likely to exist and are not considered defects.
Any questions about this rug? Don't hesitate to reach out!
We always recommend a high-quality custom cut pad for any and all rugs; these pads are made for hand-knotted rugs. They create a body and support the knots of the rug, as well as prevent it from slipping and sliding. For this pad, we will combine two pads because it is so long. We do this all the time for longer rugs that exceed 12 feet long because that is the maximum length of the rolls of pads we have.
A note from us to you: Buying a rug is special; it's not just you finding the rug, but also the rug finding you. Think about the many coincidences that have to occur for you to find the rug of your dreams. Our rugs are woven by nomads in the villages and remote mountainous regions of the major rug weaving districts across the world. All of our rugs are genuinely old and one-of-a-kind. Like anything old and unique, they are filled with character, soul, and story. The story of a rug is something we think about a lot; who was the weaver(s)? Did they weave it for personal use, commerce, to gift, or trade? Who was the second owner, and the third!? Sometimes the little motifs and symbols in rugs can help tell the story, but we will never truly know - there's something beautiful about that. Alas, our joy is to curate these incredible pieces that speak to us, and to pass them along to their new owners to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come; both continuing to add to the story of the rug, and to the story of the new owners.
