Name: GENUINE ANTIQUE PERSIAN CARPET - Very Moody & Deep Old-World Indigo Mahal with Green, Rust, Honey...
Size: 10 x 13
Age: Antique, C. 1900-1915's
Pile: Low with incredible wear and distress from genuine age-related wear and patina, SUPER character-rich piece. Ancient restorations that are thoughtfully done throughout
About: This piece is very tricky to photograph because it is JAM PACKED with so many colors and they all shift and sway like grass in the wind. The way the light hits this piece will have the salmons, greens, and ice blues glowing - or they will enrich the deep indigo and warm up the rust to melt into the rug with the buttery-wheat honey hue that runs through like lava. This is the EPITOME of old-world design with respect of rug weaving. These pieces were 100% solely woven for the European market until about the turn of the century and the years that followed. These soft colors come from all-natural and organic dyes that have softened over 100+ years in the relatively mild European climate where this piece lived most of its life. The all-over Water Garden design suggests it was commissioned to be woven by a design group to easily place it into large spaces with nice rich woods, leather, and brass and gold finishes - yet still versatile enough to work with any types of fabrics and window treatments - this is why we call this piece a "designer piece", because it is truly a dream to work with both to build a room around, and/or to introduce as the last and final element. Nice floppy handle speaking to its age, and just a very moody Ralph Lauren-esk type of piece. In a retail store, this carpet would EASILY go for $18-30K if not more depending on the city; here we're offering it for a very modest price given what this piece actually is. You will love this piece and it will stay with you for the rest of your life, as it should. This is a sophisticated carpet for the discerning eye, truly.
This rug is one-of-a-kind, only one in the world, no others are available.
Because of the nature and age of these older/antique handmade pieces, irregularities and age-related wear are likely to exist and are not considered defects.
Any questions about this rug? Don't hesitate to reach out!
We always recommend a high-quality custom cut pad for any and all rugs; these pads are made for hand-knotted rugs. They create a body and support the knots of the rug, as well as prevent it from slipping and sliding.
A note from us to you: Buying a rug is special; it's not just you finding the rug, but also the rug finding you. Think about the many coincidences that have to occur for you to find the rug of your dreams. Our rugs are woven by nomads in the villages and remote mountainous regions of the major rug weaving districts across the world. All of our rugs are genuinely old and one-of-a-kind. Like anything old and unique, they are filled with character, soul, and story. The story of a rug is something we think about a lot; who was the weaver(s)? Did they weave it for personal use, commerce, to gift, or trade? Who was the second owner, and the third!? Sometimes the little motifs and symbols in rugs can help tell the story, but we will never truly know - there's something beautiful about that. Alas, our joy is to curate these incredible pieces that speak to us, and to pass them along to their new owners to be enjoyed and cherished for many years to come; both continuing to add to the story of the rug, and to the story of the new owners.
